Just who is behind 5280Dads.com?mhd

Let me introduce myself and what I do.

My name is Mike Bates and I am the MileHighDad. I live in Castle Rock, Colorado where I am involved in numerous youth and family based organizations that I will run through below. I am found at LinkedIn here and YouTube here.  I am an At Home Dad who is living the life and figured out early on "it's not about me anymore" and never will be again so I am giving back for the betterment of our youth.

I contribute to the AtHomeDads Convention every year (this year and next, it's in Washington DC) by presenting on a different topic, last year it was All Pro Dads and this year it was on Safe Routes to School, International Walk to School Day and Childhood Obesity.

I post a monthly Blog column at Daddyshome Inc, the national resource for At Home Dads.

I am an assistant Football Coach to our 8 year old DC Dolphin Silver team. I am a major computer geek who is high on fitness for himself and kids.

I am a work for hire computer geek for Angela Engel Seeds of Tomorrow.

I serve on the board of directors for the ARC Arapahoe & Douglas Counties. First of all I am a Family Leader with the The Family Leadership Training Institute where I currently serve on their statewide Civic Design Team and am their webmaster.
The Family Leadership Training Institute is a public-private partnership that works with local communities to provide parents/youth/communities with the knowledge, skills and tools for civic engagement. The goals of FLTI are to effect positive family leadership development by: Helping families become leaders in their communities through civic engagement Expanding and facilitating the capacity of families to be change agents on a neighborhood, regional and state level Developing supportive communities of families within regions of the state Facilitating family involvement in state and local policy decision-making processes Increasing parent-child interaction through family involvement.  I recently spoke at an HRSA Conference in Washington DC (March 2012) about Family leadership and had a one on one meeting with the office of Congressman Mike Coffman to add to my portfolio.
